How to Fix Geberit Fill Valve Washer

In this guide, we take you through a step-by -step guide on how to fix your Geberit fill valve, our video below will enable you to quickly and easily repair any issues.

This is for a Geberit Sigma cistern, but the process is virtually the same for all Geberit models, there are minor differences but the process is basically the same.

Water leaking into your toilet pan is an issue that can be easily addressed, especially if you have a Geberit cistern. This guide will walk you through the steps to replace the fill valve washer efficiently, ensuring your toilet operates correctly.

Identifying the Problem

If you notice water leaking into the toilet pan, the culprit is likely an old fill valve or flush valve washer. If you have already replaced the flush valve washer, this guide focuses solely on changing the fill valve washer.

Accessing the Geberit Sigma Cistern

To begin, you will need to gain access to the internal components of your Geberit Sigma cistern:

  1. Remove the Flush Plate: Push up on the plate at the bottom to detach it. (For Geberit Kappa flush plates, you will need to push from the left hand side.)
  2. Detach the Back Plate: Unclip the two blue clips located on either side of the back plate. Turn the locking rods 90 degrees, and the back plate will come away easily. (For Geberit Kappa flush plates , you will need to unscrew the 2 screws to remove.)

Removing the Flush Rods

Next, focus on the flush rods:

  1. Unscrew the Flush Rods: Turn the flush rods counter-clockwise until you hear a snapping noise, indicating they are free to remove.

Isolating the Water Supply

Before proceeding, it is crucial to isolate the water supply:

  1. Turn Off the Water: Locate the isolation valve and turn it off completely to prevent any leaks.

Detaching the Fill Valve

Once the water is isolated, remove the fill valve:

  1. Remove the Cradle: Take off the cradle.
  2. Detach the Flush Valves: Squeeze the two blue clips at the back and angle the valve to the top right while jiggling it free.
  3. Disconnect the Fill Valve: You can either disconnect the hose or remove the fill valve completely by squeezing the blue clips at the back and wiggling it out.

Changing the Washer

With the fill valve removed, proceed to change the washer:

  1. Separate the Diaphragm from the Float: Unclip the blue diaphragm from the float; be careful as the float may fall off.
  2. Remove the Old Washer: Slightly turn and pull the old washer out. If it’s stuck, gently coax it out.
  3. Install the New Washer: Place the new washer in position and turn it slightly to secure it.

Reassembling the Cistern

After replacing the washer, reassemble carefully:

  1. Reconnect the Float: Clip the float back onto the diaphragm, ensuring it sits properly.
  2. Reinstall the Fill Valve: Ensure the fill valve is vertical and reconnect it to the cistern. Secure with the blue clips.
  3. Reattach the Flush Valve: Insert the flush valve, ensuring it sits correctly and secure it with the black clips.
  4. Add the Cradle Back: Hook the cradle through the flush valve and ensure it is in place.

Final Steps

Conclude the process by restoring the water supply:

  1. Turn the Water Back On: After ensuring everything is secure, turn the water supply back on and check for leaks.
  2. Reattach the Back Plate: Position the back plate and secure the locking rods.
  3. Insert the Flush Rods: Guide the flush rods into the cradle, turning gently until you hear a snap.

Conclusion

With the new fill valve washer in place, your Geberit Sigma cistern should function without any leaks. Regular maintenance of these components can prevent future issues. If you found this guide helpful, consider viewing our previous video on replacing the flush valve washer for further assistance.
